Books to Get You in the Mood For Wedding Planning

Fictional Books to Get You in the Mood While Planning Your Wedding

A Houston-area Bride’s Cozy Reading Guide

I’m convinced that every bride needs one thing during wedding planning: a little escape. Something comforting. Something dreamy. Something that reminds you why you’re doing all this planning in the first place. For me, books have always been that tiny bit of magic. And as the owner of Brandt 1910, I find myself constantly noticing how the love stories, friendships, and emotional journeys in my favorite novels feel so much like the weddings we host right here in our historic Wallis venue — just minutes from Fulshear, Katy, Richmond, and the greater Houston area.

So today, I’m sharing five fictional books that I think every wedding planning gal would enjoy curling up with. And because everything somehow reminds me of the venue I love, I’ll tell you exactly which part of Brandt 1910 each book brings to mind — or the wedding moment that felt straight out of the pages.

You can find all of these books on Amazon or better yet, head to your local independent bookseller!

1. The Duke and I (Bridgertons Book 1) — Julia Quinn

For the bride dreaming of romance, grandeur, and a touch of historical elegance

If you’re the kind of bride who adores soft candlelight, dramatic entrances, and that slow-burn "enemies-ish to lovers" tension, then The Duke and I is the perfect pre-wedding read.

Why it reminds me of Brandt 1910:

Every time I walk into our ballroom, especially when it's set for an evening wedding with gold accents and a lush floral arch, I think of the opulence and romance of a Bridgerton ball. We recently had a December wedding where the bride chose all-white florals. Watching her walk down the aisle felt like watching a scene from a period drama — elegant, poised, and full of heart.

Just like Daphne and Simon navigate love in unexpected ways, I watch couples every weekend step into the ballroom and realize it’s more magical than they imagined. There really is something timeless about a space that blends history and romance so effortlessly.

Perfect for:

Houston-area brides dreaming of classic elegance, candlelit receptions, and a romantic, old-world aesthetic.

2. Pride and Prejudice — Jane Austen

For the bride who loves wit, charm, sisterhood, and the beauty of a well-earned love story

This classic is the original slow-burn romance — full of misunderstandings, chemistry, personal growth, and that wonderfully satisfying conclusion we still swoon over more than 200 years later.

Why it reminds me of Brandt 1910:

Elizabeth Bennet’s world always brings to mind our bridal suite. There’s something about watching a group of sisters and best friends bustle around in their robes, laughing, doing hair, and retelling the bride’s love story that feels very Austen-esque. I’ve seen groups of bridesmaids that could absolutely pass for the Bennet sisters — protective, witty, loving, and slightly chaotic in the best possible way.

We recently hosted a bride whose sisters gave handwritten notes before the ceremony. There wasn’t a dry eye in the suite — and in that moment, it reminded me of the emotional depth and warmth in Austen’s writing.

Perfect for:

Brides who love meaningful moments with their bridal party and appreciate both romance and reflection.

3. The Dead Romantics — Ashley Poston

For the modern bride who loves humor, heart, and a love story that hits deeper than you expect

This book surprised me in the best way — quirky, uplifting, romantic, and full of emotion. It’s about healing, belief, and rediscovering what you love… which feels very wedding-planning appropriate.

Why it reminds me of Brandt 1910:

Believe it or not, this book makes me think of our outdoor garden space. There’s something magical about it — the bubbling fountain, the breeze, the way it transforms at night — that reminds me of the whimsical spirit of the story. We recently held a sunset ceremony where the bride and groom incorporated handwritten vows that were both funny and deeply personal. The whole ceremony felt like a rom-com come to life.

Like the characters in The Dead Romantics, I watch couples at Brandt 1910 lean into both the joy and the genuine emotion of their commitment. That blend of humor and heart is exactly what makes this book resonate with brides.

Perfect for:

Brides who want a heartfelt, funny, unexpected love story while they plan their big day.

4. The Rosie Project — Graeme Simsion

For the bride (or groom!) who loves an unconventional, clever, and wildly charming romance

This story follows Don Tillman, a socially awkward professor who designs “The Wife Project.” What he doesn’t expect is meeting someone who doesn’t fit a single one of his criteria… and still becomes exactly what he needs.

Why it reminds me of Brandt 1910:

Every time I read this book, I think of our groom’s suite — the space where personality shines. Groomsmen are always such a fun mix: the organized planner, the comic relief, the sentimental one who surprises everyone with his speech… every group is unique.

We once had a groom who created a spreadsheet (yes, a spreadsheet!) to optimize reception timelines. I remember thinking Don Tillman would have approved. But watching him tear up during the first look reminded me that love never stays inside the boxes we create for it — just like in the book.

Perfect for:

Couples who embrace their quirks, value emotional authenticity, and believe love shows up in unexpected ways.

5. Little Women — Louisa May Alcott

For the nostalgic bride who cherishes family, faith, and the beauty of growing into love

While Little Women isn’t strictly a romance novel, the themes of sisterhood, devotion, and choosing a life filled with purpose mirror so many wedding-day emotions.

Why it reminds me of Brandt 1910:

Whenever I think of the March sisters, I’m reminded of the quiet moments before a ceremony — especially when the bride’s mom or grandma helps with her veil or jewelry. Our historic building holds those soft moments so beautifully. The exposed brick, the warm lighting… it all feels like stepping into a space where memories are meant to be made.

We recently had a bride whose grandmother clasped her pearl necklace around her neck before the ceremony. It felt like a Little Women moment in real life — tender, generational, and full of meaning.

Perfect for:

Brides who want a cozy, sentimental read to remind them of the bigger picture during the whirlwind of planning.

Why Fiction Feels So Comforting During Wedding Planning

Planning a wedding — especially in the Houston area where there are endless options, vendors, and decisions — can feel overwhelming. Books offer what every bride deserves:

  • A soft place to land

  • A break from wedding planning to-do lists

  • A reminder of the beauty of your love story

  • A way to reconnect to the heart behind the wedding planning

And at Brandt 1910, I’ve seen firsthand that weddings are not just one-day events — they’re built on stories. Your story. Your partner’s story. The stories of those who raised you, cheered for you, and loved you into who you are.

These novels all have something in common: they remind us why love matters, why commitment is beautiful, and why celebrating it is worth every wedding day detail.
