Friday vs. Saturday vs. Sunday Weddings: Which Day Is Best for Your West Houston Wedding?
Photos taken by Heather Purvis Photo.
When most couples picture their wedding day, they automatically picture a Saturday.
Saturday ceremony.
Saturday reception.
Saturday night dancing.
And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
But as a wedding venue owner, one of the things I encourage couples to consider—especially when they're having trouble finding their preferred date—is whether the wedding actually needs to be on Saturday.
For couples searching for a West Houston wedding venue, or looking around Katy, Sealy, Fulshear, Richmond and the surrounding communities, being flexible about the day of the week can completely change your options.
A Friday wedding can turn into an entire weekend celebration.
A Sunday wedding can feel relaxed, intimate and elegant.
And a Saturday wedding still offers the convenience and traditional wedding-day experience many families prefer.
So which one is best?
The answer depends much more on your priorities than it does on tradition.

Why Saturdays Are Still So Popular
Let's start with the obvious choice.
There is a reason Saturdays remain the most requested wedding day.
For many guests, Saturday is simply easier.
Most people aren't working that day. Guests traveling from outside the area may be able to arrive Friday evening. Parents don't have to rush children home from school. Wedding parties generally have more time to get ready.
And if your reception goes late?
Guests have Sunday morning to recover.
That convenience is a major reason couples searching for a Saturday wedding venue near Houston often find popular dates disappearing first.
Spring and fall Saturdays can be particularly competitive because couples are often searching for the same combination:
Beautiful weather.
Outdoor ceremony possibilities.
Comfortable evenings.
And a weekend date.
The Biggest Downside of Saturday: Demand
The thing that makes Saturday convenient also makes it competitive.
When nearly every couple wants the same Saturday dates, availability becomes tighter.
That can affect more than just your venue.
Your favorite photographer may already be booked.
Your preferred DJ could be unavailable.
Your florist may have reached capacity for the weekend.
And caterers can only take on so many events at once.
That doesn't mean you shouldn't choose Saturday.
It simply means that if Saturday is important to you—especially during popular spring and fall months—you'll probably want to begin your venue search earlier.
Saturday Can Also Cost More
Another major difference between Friday, Saturday and Sunday weddings is pricing.
Many venues charge more for Saturdays because that's when demand is highest.
At Brandt 1910, our current venue rental pricing reflects that difference:
Saturday: $6,500
Friday or Sunday: $5,000
That means choosing Friday or Sunday instead of Saturday can save $1,500 on the venue rental alone.
You can see our current wedding venue pricing and rental details here.
That $1,500 could stay in your wedding budget—or go toward something else you really care about.
Photography.
Flowers.
Your honeymoon.
An upgraded bar.
A videographer.
More guests.
Or simply spending less on the wedding overall.

Why Friday Weddings Deserve More Attention
Friday weddings are one of my favorite alternatives for couples who want the feeling of a weekend wedding without competing for Saturday.
Think about what happens after a Friday wedding.
You wake up Saturday morning and you're already married.
Your closest friends and family may still be in town.
You can plan brunch.
Spend the afternoon together.
Relax by the pool.
Go out for dinner.
Or leave for your honeymoon.
Instead of your wedding ending the weekend, it starts it.
For couples with lots of local guests from Katy, Fulshear, Sealy, Richmond or West Houston, a Friday wedding can be especially practical.
Your guests may only need to adjust one workday rather than make an entire travel weekend complicated.
Friday Weddings Can Open Up Better Dates
Imagine you've fallen in love with a venue.
You want an October wedding.
The Saturday you hoped for is already booked.
Before moving to an entirely different month—or choosing a venue you don't love as much—ask about Friday.
Sometimes shifting your wedding by just 24 hours gives you access to:
- The month you really want
- The venue you really want
- Your preferred photographer
- More catering options
- More DJ availability
- Better pricing
That can be a much easier compromise than changing your entire wedding vision.
The One Thing to Consider With a Friday Wedding
Your guests' work schedules matter.
If you're planning a 4:00 PM or 5:00 PM Friday ceremony, some guests may need to take part or all of the day off.
Your wedding party almost certainly will.
That doesn't automatically make Friday inconvenient.
It simply means communication becomes more important.
Send save-the-dates early.
Give guests plenty of notice.
And if many people are traveling, think through what arrival time realistically makes sense.
For weddings with mostly local guests, Friday can work beautifully.

Sunday Weddings May Be the Most Underrated Option
Sunday weddings have an entirely different feeling.
They often feel calmer.
More intimate.
A little less rushed.
Instead of feeling like a big Saturday-night party, a Sunday wedding can feel like a beautiful gathering centered around the ceremony, meal and people you love most.
And depending on your timeline, you don't have to have a daytime wedding just because it's Sunday.
An afternoon ceremony followed by an early evening reception can still give you plenty of time for dinner, dancing and celebration.
Sunday Can Be Perfect for the Right Guest List
Sunday weddings can work especially well when:
- Most guests live nearby
- You're planning a smaller wedding
- Your ceremony is earlier in the day
- You're hosting an intimate dinner reception
- You're planning a second wedding
- You want a more relaxed celebration
- You aren't focused on partying until midnight
If your guests are primarily coming from Katy, Sealy, Fulshear, Richmond or nearby West Houston communities, a Sunday wedding may be much easier than you initially think.
What About Guests Who Work Monday?
This is probably the biggest concern couples have about Sunday weddings.
And it's a fair one.
If your reception goes late Sunday evening, guests may be less likely to stay until the very end when they have work or school the next morning.
There are two ways to look at that.
If you want a packed dance floor until midnight, Sunday may not be your best fit.
But if your priority is a beautiful ceremony, dinner, cake, photos, dancing and meaningful time with your guests, an earlier Sunday timeline can be wonderful.
For example:
3:30 PM: Ceremony
4:00 PM: Cocktail hour and photos
5:00 PM: Dinner
6:00 PM: Toasts and cake
6:30 PM: Dancing
8:30 PM: Send-off
You're still having a complete wedding day.
It simply ends at a time that's comfortable for guests heading home.
Friday vs. Saturday vs. Sunday: What About Your Vendors?
This is something couples don't always consider.
Your venue isn't the only vendor who may have better Friday or Sunday availability.
Photographers.
DJs.
Florists.
Videographers.
Hair and makeup artists.
Caterers.
Everyone is competing for the same peak-season Saturdays.
If you're planning your wedding on a shorter timeline, moving to Friday or Sunday can sometimes give you access to vendors who would otherwise already be booked.
It never hurts to ask whether your preferred vendors have different availability—or pricing—on non-Saturday dates.

Don't Assume Friday or Sunday Means a “Cheaper-Looking” Wedding
This is probably one of the biggest myths about non-Saturday weddings.
Your guests do not walk into the reception and think:
“Oh, this is the Friday version of a wedding.”
They see your flowers.
Your dress.
Your ceremony.
Your first dance.
Your family.
Your décor.
Your food.
Your photographs.
The day of the week does not determine whether a wedding feels beautiful, formal or meaningful.
Your choices do.
Which Day Works Best for Out-of-Town Guests?
This is where you really need to look at your particular guest list.
Saturday may be easiest if:
You have a lot of people flying in.
Guests need Friday to travel.
You expect the reception to run late.
You want Sunday available for guests to travel home.
Friday may be best if:
Most guests are local or can easily take Friday off.
You want to turn your wedding into an entire weekend celebration.
You want more venue or vendor availability.
You're willing to give guests plenty of advance notice.
Sunday may be best if:
Most guests are local.
You prefer an earlier wedding.
You're planning a smaller or more intimate celebration.
You want Saturday available for a rehearsal dinner or family gathering.
You're comfortable ending the evening a little earlier.
There is no universally best choice.
There is only the day that works best for your wedding.
Couples in Katy and West Houston Should Look Both Directions
If you live in Katy or West Houston, it's easy to begin your wedding venue search by looking toward Houston.
But don't forget to look west.
Couples searching for an affordable wedding venue near Katy TX or a wedding venue near Sealy TX may find very different options in smaller communities outside the city.
Brandt 1910 is located in Wallis, Texas, between the Katy/Fulshear area and Sealy.
Our historic venue includes an approximately 4,000-square-foot ballroom, enclosed garden ceremony space, upstairs ready rooms, and indoor and outdoor areas that together can accommodate weddings of up to approximately 200 guests.
You can learn more about the spaces and what's included on our Venue Rental page.
My Advice? Price All Three Days Before You Decide
Before automatically choosing Saturday, ask your venue:
What would this exact wedding cost on Friday?
What would it cost on Saturday?
What would it cost on Sunday?
Then compare the difference.
Not just financially.
Compare:
Availability.
Guest convenience.
Vendor options.
Timeline.
Travel.
And how you want the weekend to feel.
You may still choose Saturday.
And if you do, you'll know exactly why it's worth it to you.
But you may discover that Friday or Sunday gives you almost everything you wanted—while opening up a date, venue or budget that you thought wasn't possible.
