West Houston Wedding Venues: How Far Outside Houston Should You Look?

Is It Actually Cheaper to Look Outside Houston?

When couples begin searching for a wedding venue, the map can start to feel like a set of boundaries.

Houston. Katy. Fulshear. Richmond. Maybe a little farther west—but only if the venue is truly worth the drive.

It makes sense. Your wedding venue affects more than where the ceremony and reception take place. It shapes the atmosphere of the day, the experience your guests have, the vendors you can work with and how easily everything comes together behind the scenes.

That is why choosing a venue is about more than finding the closest option.

Sometimes, the venue that feels a little farther away on a map may actually be easier for your guests to reach, more flexible for your vendors and better suited to the wedding you have imagined. And sometimes, driving another 20 or 30 minutes can open the door to a completely different kind of experience—one with more space, more character and fewer compromises.

That is especially worth considering when you are searching for West Houston wedding venues and comparing options in Houston, Katy, Fulshear and the surrounding communities.

At some point, of course, the practical question becomes part of the conversation:

What will this venue actually cost?

But before you compare the numbers, it helps to understand what those numbers include.

At Brandt 1910, our 2026-2027 venue rental rates are:

  • Saturday: $6,500
  • Friday or Sunday: $5,000
  • Weekday: $4,000

Compare that with the greater Houston and Katy wedding market, where venue pricing can easily land in the $5,000–$8,000 range before you start adding other wedding-day expenses.

For example, current wedding marketplace pricing shows Katy-area venues with starting or estimated costs around $5,800, $6,400, $6,750 and even $7,450. Of course, no two venues include exactly the same things, which is why I always encourage couples to look beyond that big number at the top of the proposal.

A $5,000 venue isn't necessarily cheaper than a $6,500 venue if you're adding another $2,000 in chairs, linens, ceremony rental, setup fees, rehearsal fees and extra hours.

Compare What You Actually Get

This is something I've learned after talking with so many couples touring Brandt 1910.

Don't just ask:

"What's your venue rental?"

Ask:

"What will I actually have to spend to have the wedding I want here?"

At Brandt 1910, your rental includes things couples can easily end up paying separately for elsewhere, including tables and chairs, indoor and outdoor ceremony seating, table and chair setup and takedown, rehearsal time, access for bridal or engagement portraits, microphones, our large projector and screen, and on-site assistance.

We also give our couples something I personally think is incredibly valuable: vendor flexibility.

You're not automatically locked into one caterer simply because you chose our building.

That means you can shop around, choose the menu you actually want, work within your budget, and decide where your wedding dollars are most important to you.

For some couples, that flexibility can ultimately save more money than simply finding the lowest advertised venue rental.

But Will Houston and Katy Wedding Vendors Come to Wallis?

Yes!

This is probably one of the biggest misconceptions I would love to clear up for couples considering wedding venues outside Houston.

Your caterer does not have to be located in Wallis. Neither does your photographer, florist, DJ, cake baker or hair and makeup artist.

We regularly work with wedding professionals who serve the greater Houston area, Katy, Fulshear, Richmond, Rosenberg, Sealy and surrounding communities. One of my favorite photographers, Brittany with Meadow Ryn Photography + Co, actually lives in Montgomery but loves coming out to Brandt 1910 to shoot weddings.

Wallis isn't some far-off destination where your vendors suddenly stop traveling.

Many wedding vendors already expect to travel from one venue to another throughout Greater Houston. Depending on where they're based, they may charge a travel or delivery fee, so that's always something you should ask when requesting a quote. But don't eliminate a venue you love because you assume your favorite Houston or Katy caterer won't go there.

Ask them.

You might be surprised how normal the drive is for them.

And at Brandt 1910, we've specifically designed the venue to make outside catering easy, including a dedicated catering servery and private caterer's entrance.

What About Guests Who Don't Want to Drive Home?

This has also changed.

One concern couples used to have about choosing a wedding venue outside Houston was transportation after the reception—especially when guests were enjoying the bar.

Rideshare service has expanded into Wallis.

Uber now officially services Wallis, and guests can even schedule a ride in advance. Because Wallis is a smaller community, I would absolutely recommend scheduling a return ride rather than waiting until 10:30 at night and hoping a driver happens to be nearby.

That gives guests another option besides driving themselves.

For weddings with a larger number of guests who don't want to drive, couples can also look into private transportation, party buses or shuttles from Katy or Fulshear. Read our past blog post: Should I Book a Limo or Car Service for My Wedding

The point is that choosing a venue in Wallis no longer means saying, "Everyone is completely on their own."

There are options.

How Far Is Too Far Outside Houston?

For me, the answer isn't really about mileage.

It's about where your guests are actually coming from.

If the majority of your guests live in Katy, Fulshear, Richmond, Rosenberg, Sealy or West Houston, I'd encourage you to draw a circle around those communities rather than a circle around Downtown Houston.

Because here's something couples don't always think about:

A wedding venue can technically have a Houston address and still take a West Houston guest 45 minutes—or longer—to reach in Friday afternoon traffic.

Meanwhile, a venue farther west may involve an easier drive with less city traffic.

That's why I wouldn't dismiss a venue because Google tells you it's "outside Houston."

Look at the actual drive.

For couples in Fulshear and the western Katy area especially, Wallis may feel much closer than you expect.

What Could You Do With the Money You Save?

This is the fun part.

Let's say you find that choosing Brandt 1910 instead of another venue saves you $1,500, $2,500 or even $3,500 once you've compared the venue fee and everything you would otherwise have to rent separately.

What could that become?

An upgraded photographer.

A beautiful floral installation.

A honeymoon excursion.

A live musician for cocktail hour.

Better food.

An upgraded bar.

A wedding video.

Or—and this is completely acceptable—you could simply not spend it.

One of the things I hope couples understand is that a beautiful wedding doesn't earn extra points because you spent every dollar available to you.

Your wedding should feel like you.

And sometimes one of the smartest decisions you can make is expanding your search radius just enough to discover that you can have the atmosphere you want without paying a premium simply for a Houston or Katy address.

The Wedding Venue You Love May Be Just a Little Farther West

If you've been Googling West Houston wedding venues, Katy wedding venues, Fulshear wedding venues, or wedding venues near Houston, don't stop your search at an arbitrary city line.

Drive a little farther.

Come see what your budget can get you.

Brandt 1910 is a restored historic wedding venue in downtown Wallis, just west of Fulshear and Katy. We offer an indoor ballroom, outdoor garden ceremony space, private bridal and groom's suites, flexible catering options and the kind of historic character that is very difficult to recreate in a brand-new building.

Sometimes the right question isn't:

"How far outside Houston should we look?"

It's:

"How much more could we get if we looked just a little farther?"

Ready to Look a Little Farther West?

If you're searching for West Houston wedding venues, wedding venues near Houston, a Fulshear wedding venue, or a unique wedding venue outside Houston, I hope you'll give yourself permission to expand your search just a little farther west.

And Wallis may be much closer than you think.

If you're engaged and wondering whether Brandt 1910 could be the right fit for your wedding, we'd love to show you around. Come tour the venue, see the ballroom and garden in person, walk through our bridal and groom's suites, and compare what is included with the other Greater Houston wedding venues you're considering.

Sometimes finding the right venue simply means looking a few miles beyond where everyone else is looking.
